I purchased this Whirlpool refrigerator to replace the one I owned previously for 17 years. So far the new one has been great! It looks and feels well built. I like the bigger space and wider shelves. It's very well lit and you can see all your food inside. It has great temperature settings and easily maintains that temperature once set. I'm excited to see if this unit will stand the test of time like my old one but I trust Whirlpool as a brand. That's why I purchased from them again.

This One's a Lemon

Refrigerator was delivered on July 7th and hasn't worked right. In fairness, this is my 2nd Whirlpool refrigerator, which blew its compressor after 20 years with only minor work (light bulbs) before that. I also have a Whirlpool Duet Washer/Dryer that are still working fine after 25+ years with a couple heater elements, seals and belts. VIA Appliance Repair has been out four times to evaluate and then replace parts and I'll placing a third call soon. VIA has replaced the damper twice and the control boards (2) once. The freezer has maintained temperature, currently averaging -1.3°F, while set at 3; meanwhile, the refrigerator is set to 5 and is averaging 37°F. I have a pair of Govee H5108™€™s monitoring each sides temperature. I don't like that the shelves are no longer adjustable or that the shelves in the freezer are solid. The in-door water/ice dispenser is a poor design, you have no longer fit a average sized tumbler under the ice dispenser and with the water dispenser being in front of the ice dispenser, I am constantly spilling water on the floor. The earlier side-by-side design was much better.

I would never recommend this model. Extremely disappointed. I have never seen a refrigerator so cheaply made. There are no adjustable shelves in the refrigerator. The top shelf is the only one large enough for the bottled containers we use on a daily basis. I have difficulty raising my arm to lift and retrieve those same containers from that height. These shelves rest on only a small plastic abutment. The various drawers have no roller. They are plastic on plastic Again difficult to use. The shelves have gaps at the rear which shortens the available storage area. The freezer also has problems. Unfortunately this was the only black model available. Ordered without seeing it. I never thought we would not have the above features. I didn™€™t think models were made without them.

Will not hold consistent temps, can't recommend

This refrigerator would not hold a consistent temperature from top to bottom. It had about a 12 degree variance so if the top shelf was 35 the bottom was 47. This is outside the range of safety which is below 40 degrees which places your food was in the danger zone as defined by the FDA and USDA. If you changed the temperature setting to get the lower portion to anywhere close to 40 degrees the upper shelf was well below freezing which of course ruins whatever is stored there. The airflow inside the refrigerator side was very low while the freezer side seems to be normal. We had a service call, where they replaced the damper and the control board which had no effect on the problem. Our previous Kitchenaid refrigerator never exhibited this issue and gave us excellent service. We ultimately returned this refrigerator and purchased another brand which is functioning correctly and holding uniform temps.

I like the refrigerator except for the fact that there™€™s a glaring defect on the inside. It looks as if the walls are buckleing. I noticed this within a week or delivery and notified Whirlpool, they said that it was cosmetic and they wouldn™€™t do anything about it even though it was under warranty. I have seven Whirlpool appliances in my home, if this is how they treat a loyal customer when I have to replace any of them I will definitely look at other brands. Buyer beware.

Interior Lighting Opportunities. Good Unit..

Overall the Side-by-Side is a good unit, but opportunities are evident. For example, on the freezer side there are three glass shelves, but only one basket. We added a plastic basket onto one of the glass shelves to increase the usable storage space for the frozen food. On the refrigerator side the interior lighting is harsh and not well balanced. The light is located in the back right corner shining outwards, into the person's face. This is uncomfortable and also causes shadows. A single LED strip across the front, out of direct view of the person, would be an obvious improvement.

Lots of room and no areas of items freezing in the frig like my replaced GE frig. I love side freezer verses a bottom freezer as you don't have to unpack the freezer to get at things you want. Freezer is a good size definitely can put big pizzas in there which I read was an issue on some smaller side freezers.

Great Replacement Fridge

We™€™ve had our new fridge for a week. It is replacing a very similar Whirlpool model we bought 20 years ago. After being plugged it, it started cooling immediately. We had ice in a couple of hours. It runs quietly and is staying cool. I like having a deli drawer that other manufacturers don™€™t include. It does not have adjustable shelves like the information I read, but they seem to be spaced sufficiently. The water dispenser is more out front and easier to use with tall cups. However, the ice dispenser lever is back inside the opening and hard to reach with taller tumblers. We didn™€™t receive the can caddy. After calling, I was told it was back ordered. I hope to receive it soon. We hope this fridge lasts as long as our other Whirlpool. It™€™s still running, but a sensing part to the ice maker broke and wasn™€™t available anymore. We have continued to have good products when purchasing Whirlpool.

Icemaker is the worst!

At year one, the icemaker malfunctioned. I called and was told how to turn the icemaker off, unplug the fridge, wait 1 min, re-plug, then turn it back on and push the reset button. If the ice doesn't fall and I don't hear two bursts of water, then do it again. Sometimes it takes 4-5 attempts! I'm an expert now because it happens once a week! Too bad it happened one month after the warranty was over. They want to sell extended warranties! Buyer beware! Of course, if you need arm workouts here's your chance! And no it was not that the temperature was too cold and the water line was frozen. That's another common problem!

It's New, but.....

We've had our Whirlpool refrigerator for over 3 weeks now and experienced some design and user shortcomings. 1. The door handles are too close together. If you only have one hand to open the doors, you can hit your knuckles on the other handle. 2. The ice shute gets ice trapped in the shute door. When the ice melts it falls out onto the kitchen floor. So, you have to check it after every use. 3. A huge design flaw is the water filter is at the VERY bottom of the refrigerator necessitating that you lay flat on your floor to change it! If you have mobility issues, I DO NOT recommend this refrigerator. 4. My spouse noticed that even though the cubic feet was listed the same as our old refrigerator, it actually held less. Shelves not as deep. We were restricted to this size refrigerator to fit in our kitchen and color to match our other appliances. Only had the choice of this model and one other and a three week wait. If not, I may have tried to switch to the other refrigerator. Otherwise, it seems to be a nice refrigerator and well built. If I could have purchased the same refrigerator I had I would have! Lasted for 20 plus years and had all that this does but with a simpler, user-friendly design.

Overall a very nice refrigerator. I have the black color which has a nice shiny exterior. Freezer width is. Bit narrow but still fine. Ice maker unit is a large one. I read reviews that it is a noisy refrigerator but I do not think so. As ice cubes are created and fill the bin, yes it can make a noise. Drawback is a design flaw of water dispenser. It spills water down the door. Water is also warm and not cold. Refrigerator side is very nice with 3 bins for deli and cheese, vegetables and fruits. Door shelves are ample and can hold your milk and other drinks. Overall a nice and functional appliance for a home

Overall I am pleased with my purchase. The only issue I have is with the ice-maker. When I switch from crushed ice to cubes it comes out, at first, as a combination of the two and sprays chip about. Not anything major but I do keep a towel handy to wipe the spills.

We have been waiting for part to repair the refrigerator side. The refrigerator last Sunday was 24 degrees. The repair service came and the part should arrive today, not sure when it will be installed. We lost food that was frozen. It was delivered on October 18th.

I bought this Whirlpool refrigerator over a month ago. Not happy that the unit has the compressor/fan runs most all the time and seems noisy. Rarely it is quite and not running. Service technician came and said this is how the unit was works

Good refrigerator so far only had a week

So far so good™€¦ it™€™s quiet when ice drops and water dispensers is also quiet. I had to get black because all my appliances are black. I wasn™€™t happy with paying more for that.

Could be better/ more functional interior design

shelves are not adjustable so I cannot put heavy objects on the lower shelf. And I cannot lift them to the top Wine bottles - some fit on the top shelf and some are too tall. Need adjustable sleeves Need another bin in the freezer. The one on the botom works very well but you need two and they both need to slide forward

Keeps things cold. That™€™s a positive. When it was delivered one door was about an inch higher than the other. They came out to try and adjust it and did. However now the handles are way off. We just gave up. The ice maker is a joke. Every other day it clogs the dispenser then you have to clean it out to get ice. Terrible design Have always owned Whirlpool since bought first house many many years ago Probably not again. Even the water dispenser isn™€™t that great. And not being able to adjust shelves in the door much is a pain .l

Drama Refrigerator Experience

The first delivery of my very expensive black fingerprint-proof Whirlpool refrigerator was one wherein some of the plastic packaging left white marks on edges of the black doors and the ice maker did not produce much ice after several days of operation. I was informed that the ice maker would produce a full tray of ice within 24 hours. So I informed Home Depot that I needed to have the item replaced. The replacement refrigerator arrived a month later and that item was badly dented at the bottom side. So I did not accept the delivery and informed Home Depot that I need to reorder the item, which it did. The third delivery produced a refrigerator that produced enough ice within a few days, but upon delivery the delivery folk had to jerry rig the bottom refrigerator door (right side) tray (white) so that it would snap into place because otherwise it would not snap into place because during the manufacturing process the inside of the door was molded improperly so that even a replacement shelf part would not fit the molded "nubs" where the shelf is supposed to snap into place. Bear in mind that this is an expensive refrigerator model that would have taken at least 4 deliveries if not for the jerry rigging of the door shelf hard work of the Home Depot delivery person. Not good for such an expensive item. Whirlpool should produce a far better quality refrigerator. Far too much drama for any customer to experience for what ought to be a simple experience. This experience was topped off by a VERY LOW compensation amount for such drama. It does not make me want to buy Whirlpool again.

Keeps It Cool

This refridgerator replaced another that was only three years old. The previous model started having difficulty after two and a half years so a few months later I replaced it. And this thing is working like a charm! Nice and cool!
